All About Increase Specialist (Mentor)
A mentor with All About Increase is a caring, responsible adult volunteer who serves as a trusted friend and guide to a young adult. S/he helps to ensure that the young person develops crucial career and life skills, is exposed to new opportunities and a wide array of resources, makes positive life choices and stays in school or training.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Commit to spending at least one year in a relationship with a mentee
- Communicate with mentee weekly (by telephone, text, or email) to keep in touch
- Give advice and information to mentee about life skills such as succeeding in a workplace environment
- Serve as a positive role model by modeling desirable behaviors such as patience, tolerance, and reflective listening
- Be encouraging and supportive
- Provide coaching and encouragement to the mentee
Qualifications
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have experience working with young people, either through work or volunteering
- Be a college graduate
- Understand the mentoring relationship is a process that takes work and time
Training
- Meet with Instructor to undergo training
- Attend ongoing trainings as needed
- Recognize role as a mandated reporter for any mentees under the age of 18
Teach to Increase Specialist (Instructor)
A Teach to Increase Specialist aims to help youth understand the program objectives and goals. The Specialist will teach workshops to the youth with the purpose of encouraging learning and growth. The Specialist will ensure that the class environment is approachable to youth, so they not only are comfortable coming to class but also excited.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach the All About Increase Workshop’s curriculum: pre-employment workshops, career exploration and identification, employment preparation, self-motivation, life skills, career skills, and job retention
- Ensure curriculum remains current and understandable to youths’ needs
- Discuss weekly topics and facilitate team exercises
- Assist youth with resume writing and cover letters
- Conduct mock interview sessions
- Cover life-training topics including the housing process and taxes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Computer proficient and familiar with using career resources, including computerized assessment tools
- Excellent communication, networking, and negotiation skills
- At least 3 years working with underrepresented youth in job development and placement, or similar area
- Great presentation skills for conducting workshops
- Ability to effectively deliver information and train
- Leadership and motivation skills for the encouragement of youth participants
Training
- Meet with Instructor to undergo training
- Attend ongoing trainings as needed
- Must remain up-to-date on current issues and technology use
